Shop Preparations

This post is subtitled "How to Set Up a Shop in 3 Days". It's possible when you have enough help. With our official Studio and Shop Opening on Saturday, it's full-steam ahead.

Yesterday was Day 1. Dan cleared unslightly cobwebs from above the windows.

Mopped the floor.

Painted the floor. Yay for man power!

Behind the scenes, I was painting an old wooden table and training our new junior assistant Lara (you will meet her later) who was heat-setting fabrics and tagging tea-towels.

Last night, it was off to IKEA to buy shelving which made for a very long day but at least we got a nice meal at the cafe (yes, I like IKEA food). Today, we will get the shelving ready and make sure that we have LOTS of goodies for the opening that you will love for Mother's Day gifts.

Let me know if you plan to come. We would love to meet you and have your support. Fabric printing demonstrations are scheduled for 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.

PLUS all visitors will receive a raffle ticket and one lucky person will win a $100 Thea & Sami gift voucher that can be used to purchase fabric, homewares or go towards a screen-printing workshop.

Last week, we had a very special guest to our studio. To see who it was and to view more pictures of us screen-printing, click here. Thanks Jennie!

Our New Studio

I really do have a hectic life. I'm not sure when it started being so but I am exhausted!

One of the things that was taking up my time of late was the search for a new studio. I'm happy to announce that after looking at many less-than-desirable spaces, we have finally found the right one. For me, it was love at first sight.

Look at how much room there is! I will be able to have my 7 metre printing table as well as another 12 metre table plus much more.

Our new landlord is happy to install skylights as we are used to having them. This means we never have to turn on the lights and we can accurately see what ink colours we are using and mixing.

How sweet is the little garden at the front? The large windows will allow us to create a lovely product display.

And what's this? An air-conditioned office space so I can sit and do my administrative duties during normal working hours. Hopefully, I can then go home and not work a second night shift.

I am especially loving the office window. I can already imagine myself poking my head through it to yell out "Work faster people!"

We will be moving by the end of the month but will still be located in Capalaba.

New Studio Update

Do you remember our old shed? It's still sitting in the corner of our backyard but hopefully not for long.

As this is the future site of our new screen-printing studio, I thought you may be interested in an update. We've gone through the long, council application process and have successfully addressed all of the environmental and other conditions and are now on the home stretch.

I'm kind of excited seeing the 'proposed development' sign erected outside our front fence. We've had a couple of calls from curious neighbours but without objections so everything seems to be on track.

If all goes well, we should be able to relocate by the end of the year. I am looking forward to working from home, not paying rent and especially to increasing our production capacity with a second yardage-printing table. Will you come to our grand opening?
