Flea Market Finds - Domestic

Did you visit your dad today for Father's Day? I did and have to admit that it has been a bit depressing visiting mine these last few months as he was almost blind after suffering from Macular Degeneration. This is surprisingly common so it's important to keep being tested for it as we get older. It was diagnosed a little late for my dad. However, after several painful eye procedures, his sight may finally be improving somewhat. Fingers crossed that it will continue to do so.

On a happier note, I met up with a dear friend yesterday and we had a lovely morning that started with breakfast and then lots of vintage home shopping! Tomorrow I will show you some lovely photos and reveal where we went because it is one of the best places in Brisbane for romantic furnishings. Today, I will stick to showing you my absolute bargains in true Flea Market style.

Vintage kitchen scales - $10. I'm quite liking scales at the moment probably because for the first time in years, I have been successfully losing weight these last few weeks. My secret? I just started eating natural, real food. By that, I mean (almost) no processed crap. It's been that simple.

Vintage egg-beater - $6. I'm excited about both of these finds as they will make great props next time I need to photograph tea-towels, don't you think?

This painting has a broken frame in the bottom left-side corner but I figured that for $5, who really cares? It's already hanging up in our guest room. We did assemble the bed today but now need to buy a mattress. I know it's illogical but the store we bought the (new) bed from didn't sell any.

That makes sense, a bed shop that doesn't sell mattresses?? Hmmm . . . unless it's in 'bed shop alley' with a strip of slumber related products.
Happy Father's Day to your papa, mine just got back from holidays, he's in Sydney, so we just chatted. He's on his 3rd pace maker, they don't look after themselves. Love Posie

Well that sucks if his macular degeneration wasn't picked up, bummer. I'm very careful with my eyes, already had a retinal detachment at 21, i'm precious!!
My dad is having a ball, just a bit too much fun. Love Posie

Had to delete and retype my comment - so many boo-boos. What it should read is: Happy Father's Day to your dad too Posie. The sad thing is, that my dad does look after himself but his fogey eye doctor never tested him for macular degeneration and didn't pick up on the optic nerve damage in the previous eye.
We bought the bed from Everyday Living. It's weird because when I look at their website, they're associated with Sleep City who does have mattresses. Go figure.

Your poor Dad, hopefully his eyesight continues to improve, it must be terrifying to loose eyesight. The vintage egg beater is great!

Believe it or not Thea I use a beater like that for beating cream. My kids learned that way too and loved doing it when they were little. I think both will make excellent props for your gorgeous tea towels. Glad to hear your Dad is on the improve - will keep my fingers crossed for continued improvement. A bed shop without mattresses? Who knew?!

Gorgeous kitchen stuff! I am addicted to buying antique-y kitchenware, under the guise of using them in photos ... well, most make it into photos eventually ...

I bought an eggbeater last week too! My 7-year-old requested it - it's some kind of weapon apparently. Perfect prop for tea towel shootings.
