Sweet Vintage Shopping

Did you have a productive Monday? I did and feel quite content. Besides popping into the studio for a couple of hours to print more fabric for our orders, I finally sent out my e-newsletter which was months overdue. Not everybody reads my blog so it's something that I should be doing monthly as I had some subscribers asking if they had "missed" receiving it.

I left work early specifically to sort out my home office/studio. Six hours later, it's not finished but almost. It's been stressful to not yet have our new home organised, mainly due to the fact that there just aren't enough hours in my day. So now, I can start working on catching up with months of neglected bookkeeping. But that's boring so instead I'm here to reveal our Saturday shopping destination as promised in my previous post. See top picture for your clue (excuse my reflection).

This is my good friend Gloria who you may have met before. We've been friends for over 30 years! It's great that we still have so many similar interests and we specifically met to go antiquing; much more fun with a girlfriend than an impatient husband.

It's important to start with a good breakfast which we did at the
Cottage Garden Cafe and checked out the antique stores there before moving on to Brisbane's real mecca of vintage shopping goodness, the Woolloongabba Antique Centre (WAC). Previous WAC related post can be read here.

We did almost all of our shopping at Blake & Taylor. If you're into upcycled painted furniture, perfect vintage tablecloths and romantic furnishings then this is the place for you! The prices are quite reasonable too. They will soon be opening their own stand-alone store in Paddington, in Brisbane's western suburbs. I've signed up for their newsletter so will let you know when.

This is Raewyn who was (wo)manning the store. How sweet are (new) pyjamas in the foreground?

I took home this amazing vintage ironing board. The top is painted white which I wouldn't have thought of doing but I love it. I think it will be the perfect prop for our next trade show, don't you? Gloria scored big with a painted white colonial table which was something she had been looking for. I also found my other goodies at Blake and Taylor.

My real goal was to find a bedside table for our guest room. This one is ideal as the bed is white. It was found at one of the other stores in the centre but unfortunately I can't tell you which one as a lot of them don't have names on them (don't ask me why). I now have to find something different for the other side as I don't like everything to be matchy-matchy.

The peacock lamp looks perfect sitting on it. I've said it before but why does everything look better in white?

Oh that ironing board is delightful. How nice you have a gorgeous friend of 30 years - me too, we're still great buddies since preschool, different schools & careers & overseas lifestyles hasn't changed a thing. Either that or you can't escape me!! Gorgeous post, beautiful stores, ahhhh, love Posie

Oh yes, I agree I think furtniture can be tranformed/brought to life with a bit of white paint.

Lovely table and what a fun day out with your friend. I adore vintage shopping too - am addicted! :-)
