Shoe Making Workshop

What a fabulous & inspiring week it's been. Miranda and I drove up to the Rosebed St. Gallery in Eudlo for a sandal-making workshop on Wednesday with the fabulous Pendragon Shoes creative duo.

These "La Fortunata" boots are my absolute favourites from Pendragon and I first blogged about them here. They were commissioned for Helena Bonham-Carter.

Of course, our creations were much simpler on the day. These are Miranda's sandals. I wish I had taken a photo of her insoles because they were so elaborately decorated.

We each made sandals with leaves and wrap around straps. We worked in the back yard so there was no sewing; everything was truly  hand-made.

I'm not a plain and simple kind of girl so I decided to embellish mine with hot pink flowers. Do ignore the mismatched nail polish.

It was an opportunity to try different leather decorating techniques. These flowers were painted on with a resist masking fluid before painting on the dye.

The floral outlines were drawn on using a hot pyrography tool.

Tracing the shape of our shoes onto the leather insoles. Love the custom-fit as I always have trouble finding shoes wide enough for my feet.

Busy bees. What a perfect day it was to work outdoors.

Lunch provided by the lovely ladies was just a bonus!  You may follow Pendragon Shoes on facebook. Thank you to Jackie and Adrian for being so patient and generous with sharing their knowledge.

How awesome! Love both pairs. Takes me back to when I was in Vietnam and I watched an old man make my custom designed sandals ( must have been better to make them yourself).
