Mushrooms in the Nook

Michelle Gillies loves mushrooms! Michelle is the proud owner of Brisbane's lovely new haven for hand-made and eco-friendly gifts, NOOK.



Yesterday, I visited Nook to deliver hand-printed Mushrooms linen tea-towels plus some Mushrooms tote bag kits for you domestic goddesses who love to sew.



I know where I will be going for my Christmas shopping. Look at all these delicious hand-made brooches from Australian designers Made by White, States of Nature and That Vintage.



I was really excited to spot this lovely tote bag in the shop window by Where's Becky Bean featuring Thea & Sami's Fretwork design printed on hemp/organic cotton canvas.



Nook is having their official opening this Saturday. If you're in Brisbane, do come along and support local small business. Entertainment will follow in the evening after you have bought all your lovely hand-made gifts.

Coffee, Cake and Blooms

I love Anna Bartlett's whimsical art! I have raved about it before when I purchased one of her fabulous art bags as a Christmas gift for my sister.

I was so excited to print these linen tea-towels for Anna last week and now I can show you. The top design is "Coffee and Cake" in lilac and the other is "Bloom" in spring green.


Remember how I told you that I love teaching screen-printing workshops because of the cool people I meet? Well Anna is another prime example and while I sometimes do screen-print for other people, I confess I can only print things I really like. Am I bad?

Desert Pychedelic

Artisan invites you to attend the opening of Desert Psychedelic, an exhibition celebrating the achievements of Jimmy Pike, acknowledging his position as not only one of the great Indigenous artists, but also one of the greatest Australian textile designers of the 20th century.

The exhibition will be opened by Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland, Ms Penelope Wensley, AO. Not to be missed, an opening night fashion performance of the wild celebratory garments of the late eighties by Desert Designs, styled by designer, Christine Thorley.

Artisan is located on the corner of Ivory and Brunswick Streets in Fortitude Valley (Brisbane). Their exhibitions are always good fun (free wine) and I love the Mart store that stocks Australian hand-made goodies including Thea & Sami hand-printed tea-towels and tablecloths. Thank you Denise, Andrea and Shannon for selling so many lately!
