Bangalow Treasures

Bangalow is one of Australia's prettiest towns with its historical buildings, first-class restaurants and great shops but I was most excited about one in particular; Heath's Old Wares.

Do you remember having those giddy feelings when you walked into a candy store as a kid? Well, that's how I felt when I walked into Heath's Old Wares. What a treasure cove of beautiful old things! I owe a thank you to Katherine of the Oldboathouse for giving me the tip. I didn't take any photos of the store but you can see some on their website. The owners are Ross and Eva Heath and they provide very friendly, small-town service.

Recently, I have been looking for some old wooden frames that I could use to display some of my fabrics at the upcoming Stitches and Craft Shows but had no luck finding any nice ones in Brisbane or on eBay at a reasonable price. You can only imagine my joy when I found these beauties. I regret not buying more of them.

The hand-carved detail of the frames is perfection.

My big kid (read husband) also got excited in the store when he discovered this old cow bell, a Latin percussion instrument. In fact, he wouldn't stop playing it so the owners gave it to him.

If you looking for old things such as ladders, cooking utensils, cotton reels, bottles and much more then this is the place for you. It's about a 2 hour drive south from Brisbane. For updates, Eva Heath also writes a blog.

I wish I had more time down there, I didn't make it to Heath's Old Wares. I take it you enjoyed the rest of your stay. I thoroughly enjoyed Friday, so nice to escape for the day to that beautiful cottage with lovely people.

Those frames are a great find Thea. I don't think I have ever been to Bangalow but will have to persuade my family to take a weekend drive down there as soon as the cricket season finishes. The only trouble is that we totally fill the car so there isn't much room for goodies!

Sadly, I still get enjoyment out of walking into a candy store :)! This looks like a lovely store. I'm curious to know where Bangalow is...I so wish on our trip last year to Australia we could have hit all these great little towns!

Bangalow is in Northern New South Wales. There is a link with more information in this post.

Bangalow is such a gorgeous place. Love the frames too. I've been buying frames like these for years but they're much harder to find now. Years ago I used to pick them up for fifty cents! Ah, those were the days!

Bangalow is a fantastic designer's haven, there's a whole trail of interesting antiques and old wares, especially the Heath's shop is huge and there are some priceless pieces in there. The boutiques are also excellent, clothes, shoes, books, music, Bangalow is definitely the place to look for interesting design ideas and gifts. If you're looking for a place to stay, we are 3 minutes to Bangalow, check us out at www.summerhills.com . It's worth coming to Bangalow when it's the 4th Sunday of the month which is when the Bangalow Markets are held on the 4th Sunday. This is when the design opportunities explode in Bangalow because then you've got all the market stalls as well to explore, which are very interesting and it's a market with lots of quality, not trash.
