Learn to Screen-Print

I've had a terrible case of Mondayitis today and have been fighting a headache all day.

However, I did want to pop in to remind you that I am teaching a screen-printing workshop on Saturday. We still have a couple of places left so if this is something you've been itching to do, you can book directly on-line.

For further inspiration, you may check out more designs from our previous classes.

My Secret Garden - Teneriffe

There's a beautiful new shop in Brisbane's riverside suburb of Teneriffe that you are going to love!

My Secret Garden specialises in designer home and gardenwares and I'm proud to announce them as new stockists of Thea & Sami linen homewares and Red Revival bamboo coasters.

Owners Rick and Kerry outside their gorgeous shop.

So many beautiful and natural textures here.

This is my favourite corner of My Secret Garden with the faux lawn. I feel like I could relax in there all day. Rick is a talented graphic designer and the printed back drop is an example of his work.

For more information, you can also visit and like My Secret Garden on Facebook. They're open every day except Mondays.

The Goods

Okay stickybeaks, if you've been hanging out to see what else was in our goody bags, the wait is over.

The prettiest Tea Bag Holders sewn by Linda Simpson of Lilly Cottage.

Linda is not just a champion crafter but also a poet. Each of these holders came packaged with the following verse:

Here is something pretty and frilly from the little Cottage called Lilly. Pop in a teabag for you to use or even a business card if you choose. A little reminder of a great Cause. Wishing, Health, Wealth and Happiness to you and yours.

Truly a lovely souvenier of the day.

I've long been a fan of Kerri Shipp's art and was delighted that we each received a mini print.

Other goodies included a Honey Bunny pattern (sorry if you didn't get one, these were limited stock) from Clare's Craftroom, a Georgina Berkman card, a mini soap in a linen bag from Bayside Rose and a linen tea-towel (all different) from Thea & Sami.

More lovely prizes for the raffle included a glass bead lariat with its own pouch from Creative Arty Facts. Katherine from the Old Boathouse donated some fresh flowers in a vintage collaged pot and a Georgian plate set. Unfortunately, I didn't get photos of those but if the winners have, please pass them on.

Georgina Berkman also donated 2 x 5 pack cards for the raffle. Other raffle prizes previously mentioned were the brooch from Red Revival, the wonderful painting from Sarah Woods and the therapeutic massage from Janelle Bray.

The lucky raffle winners were:
Sarah Woods Painting - Liz DeLuca
Old Boathouse Flowers in Pot - Kerri Shipp
Old Boathouse Georgian Plate Set - Leanne Marsh who bought the tickets from afar but kindly sent her mum and friend along.
Janelle Bray Massage Therapy - Georgina Berkman
Creative Arty Facts Lariat - Kate Johnstone
Red Revival Brooch - Janelle Bray.
Georgina Berkman card packs - Sonia Jacobs.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all of you generous souls!

Pretty Scraps

It's been a quiet day in the studio today which has allowed me to update the website a little. Back in stock are some pretty Fabric Scrap Packs.

Choose from the selection on this page or that page. Have fun crafting!

The Morning Tea

Our Australia's Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday was a great success thanks to all who attended, donated to our Cancer Council Fund, baked cakes, donated goody bag items or raffle prizes.

We far exceeded our original target of $500 with a total of $940 raised so far, including 20% of our studio sales that morning. It's not too late to make a donation if you wish.

Read on to see who was there and click on their names to read their blogs.

Here's a glimpse of the crowd with Georgina and Liz on the right.

Jenny, Kerri and Katherine.

Linda, Joyce, Pam and Sonia.

Three lovely sisters; Amie, Jessica and Kate.

Emma and Sandrine.

Tracey and Linda.

Sandrine and Sophie.

Home-baked goods by Sandrine, Tracey, Georgina, Chantal and me.

I'm sorry if I didn't get to chat to all of you and take your photos. I really need to invest in a hot water urn before future functions so that I can spend more time with you.

I will be posting more images later of the goody bag items and acknowledging those who contributed.

It was a lovely morning with a lot of great networking happening. Would you like us to host future Morning Teas for free social networking?

The Escapee

There were tears this morning. The gate had been left open and one of my biggest fears had been realised. There was a breakout!

I frantically looked and drove around our neighbourhood but it had already been an hour since Zoe had been let outside and there were no signs of her.

I called the Brisbane City Council and asked if they could send out a dog catcher to find her. Obviously I have watched too many cartoons as they informed me that they don't do that. I would have to wait until somebody found her, if she wasn't run over by a car in the meantime.

I had no choice but to go to work. An hour later, I received a phone call informing me that Zoe had been found. She was being held at an animal shelter 30 kms from home! No, she's not superdog but she was found wondering along the Gateway Motorway not far from home. A commuter stopped, picked her up and drove her to the animal shelter nearest to her workplace.

I had to pay $75 to bale out the jailbird and received some information on how to better look after my dog and warned that I may be fined for not having my pet in a secured yard. I was grateful that they given her a bath. Zoe looked very clean and smelt so sweet but I didn't dare ask what shampoo had been used.

We've been cuddling on the couch all evening so I think the day was a little stressful for both of us especially with Voyt away this week. All's well that ends well and I'm g
rateful for the kindness of strangers and that we have had her microchipped which aided in her quick return. Tomorrow, I must have a new collar tag engraved with her name and my phone number, something I have neglected to do.

If you don't have your pets microchipped, I strongly urge you to do so.

On a positive note, I was lucky that Lara was around today to help prepare for our Morning Tea tomorrow. Don't the goody bags look pretty all in a row? Well, I've had my sofa nap and I'm off to make a lemon cheesecake.

Winter Lovelies

I'm cold today. Those of you south of the border can stop laughing now. It is cold in the mornings here and I am looking forward to wearing my new Gaye Abandon arm warmers today. They arrived in the mail super-fast on Monday.

They're so cozy and I love that they're made of recycled woollen garments and in Australia (Melbourne). Yay!

I think I need a hot water bottle cover next

or how about this colourful Scarf Necklace? I want them all. You can purchase your own one-of-a-kind creation from Gaye Abandon's Made It Shop or Etsy.

On another note, I would like to thank everyone who has donated to our Cancer Council fund so far. We have already reached 25% of our goal of $500 and that doesn't count the donations from the lovely ladies who will be attending our Morning Tea tomorrow. I'm excited!

Romantic Prairie Style

There are some lovely decor books out right now. I recently purchased Romantic Prairie Style by Fifi O'Neill and as one of the most beautiful books I have ever read, it's set to be a personal favourite for me.

French-born O'Neill has lived on the prairies of both Manitoba and Illinois and her book reflects that way of life. Her book epitomises the style I love.

I'm in love with this white and turquoise palette and the use of vintage windows.

The loveliness has inspired me to set a new goal. With the studio and shop now finished and that photo-shoot behind me, we are planning to get our neglected house into ship-shape too.

The goal is to have our home ready for photography by the end of this year. Deadlines work very well for me.

Who would ever want to stay in a hotel with a bathroom this pretty at home?

Decorating shouldn't end indoors. My husband has agreed to paint our verandah white too. Love!

With books being quite expensive in Australia (why is that?) I have recently discovered UK-based Book Depository (thanks Julie) who will ship books anywhere in the world for FREE! Expect to save around 50% on local new book prices with an extra 10% off prices until the end of May. I need to go book shopping.

You can purchase Romantic Prairie Style here.
Have you found any new favourites lately?

Brilliant Upholstery!

There is a dynamic duo in Lismore, New South Wales who are upholstery geniuses.

Laura & Katie who operate under the name of Flourish & Blume find the most neglected, you-could-never-imagine-saving chairs and totally transform them into true works of art.

Look at these 'before' shots. Would you have seen beyond the ugliness?

The fabric used is our Petersburg Linen in Dusty Pink, custom-printed with our Marguerite floral in a Creme colour for the girls. You can read more about the upholstery process here.

I am quite excited about meeting the girls when they visit Brisbane at the end of the month. Watch this space as we are planning future collaborations.

Visit Laura and Kate's blog to see more of their amazing work and please show them some love.

Looking and Smelling Good!

I bet you wish you were coming to our Morning Tea, right? Great company, yummy cakes and goodie bags all for a good cause.

It just keeps getting better with Pam of Bayside Rose generously donating samples of her delicious hand-made natural soaps for all the goodie bags.

Do you prefer jewellery? How about this wooden brooch from Red Revival? Emma has kindly offered it for our raffle. You probably don't recognise the fabric but it's our Cottage Garden printed flax linen. I love how a snippet makes it look so different.

I just love Emma's new work. How cool is this "Peter Pan Collar" necklace? Even cooler is the fact that it comes with interchangeable ribbon for the bow.

You can meet both Pam and Emma at our Morning Tea. Thanks gals! RSVP to the Morning Tea here or email me.

Back to the Real Job

Today it was back to screen-printing textiles. Only problem was that everybody (except me) was sick so I was flying solo. I was running back and forth from screen-printing placemats, tea-towels and napkins to putting them through the textile dryer. I came home exhausted! Who needs the gym?

We are still small enough that I do customise orders for our lovely stockists. These pretty 'Hydrangea' placemats are printed on white linen with 'Blue Heaven' ink.

As are the coordinating tea-towels which are now on their way to 'Themes' in Sydney.

The 'Dotty about Roses' tea towel printed in black and white will be available at 'Finders Keepers Homewares' in Peregian Beach next week. Do you like them? If so, I will print more of them.

We have ordered white linen fabric so I am planning more pretty prints on white for Spring. I want to have curtains made for our home.

Yay! I am so grateful that my shipment of linen napkins finally arrived today. All 8 boxes of them. We had totally run out but we shouldn't have any more supply problems now.

Tomorrow I will be announcing more goodies for our Morning Tea. What a generous lot you all are. I am getting quite excited and know it will be a great morning for a great cause with 30 expected guests so far. You can still RSVP until Monday so that we can make sure to have a goodie bag for you.

Yes, I am taking offers of home-made cakes, cookies or whatever else is your specialty :)
