Plain and Printed Cushions

Our Merry Month of Creativity continues with cushions from Amelia Eyre.

Chosen fabric design is the Iron Flowers crème print on European natural linen.

Amelia has cleverly added interest to her collection by alternating panels of printed and unprinted linen which is also a great way to stretch your dollar.

Dotty About Roses

Yesterday was not a good day. A lot goes wrong behind the scenes that I don't often share as I don't like to be negative here. Let's just say that it was fortunate that I was working alone as those responsible for the mishaps may have been seriously injured (by me). You know who you are.

Now back to being positive - I did several colour tests on the new linens (see previous post) but am still not 100% happy with the results. I did however print some samples of my new tea towel design - "Dotty About Roses", inspired by my love of cross-stitch.

This one is a very dark red mixed with a little black. I'm thinking of calling this shade 'Midnight Rose'. Do you like it on the natural?

I also printed a creme sample as it our most popular colour on natural linen. I should probably print a red version and am thinking of including pretty colourways like a pink and a light blue on white linen towels. I guess you won't know if you like them until you see samples.

The "Dotty About Roses" will soon be available as a fabric print too. I'm a little worried that the details may be lost when we print the yardage as they are quite fine and I was restricted by how many even-numbered rows (for repeat to work) fit across my screen. We'll see what happens when I test the screen today with my still intact printing partner.

Thanks to the readers who suggested a colour for the green linen (again see previous post). I did find a match on my Pantone guide that was called 'Gray Green' but that seemed too boring a name. The next closest match was 'Sage Green' and I like the sound of that.

In response to Amanda's question, the new fabrics do have a 'shot' look because of the 2-colour weave and this adds a wonderful depth to the texture.

The Europeans Have Landed

The timing couldn't have been better for my first day back at work yesterday as our shipment of beautiful European natural linens arrived at our studio.

This is a huge relief as I had no idea what they would look like. It's true.

The fabrics are all a two-yarn weave which includes the natural colour in one direction and a 2nd colour chosen from these dyed thread samples. I could only imagine how they would turn out but I think they are perfect.

I am calling this one Dusty Pink (pink and flax fibres).

We have replicated the ever-popular Duckegg Blue linen (light blue and flax fibres).

Our new natural linen is one colour with the flax fibres woven in both directions and now perfectly matches our natural tea-towels.

This is a green/flax and I haven't decided what to call it yet. I will have to consult my Pantone colour chart today for ideas but I am also open to suggestions.

I will be listing these beauties on the website this evening and yes, they will be available for wholesale so please contact me.

I am off to the studio now to experiment with printing colours.

New Natural Linens!

As promised, new natural linens are now available through our on-line store.

How perfect is this Marseille striped linen for creating your own French style decor?

If you don't wish to sew your own homewares, Thea & Sami's own range of linen cushions will be available soon and in time for the Life In Style trade show.

My favourite new fabric is the ever-popular Petersburg linen now available in a traditional Duck Egg Blue colour. The fabric is woven with flax and light blue fibres. I can't wait to test print some pink shades on this one.

As with all of our high-quality European linens, these have been pre-washed and pre-shrunk so can be safely laundered. The best news for some may be that the the linens are now available in minimums of 1/2 metre lengths. If you're uncertain, you have the option of ordering swatches. Simply use drop-down menu that is at the bottom of each fabric page.
